Gravity Media – then branded Input Media – is a leading UK sports production company delivering multi-platform coverage of some of the world’s most high profile sporting events.

THE PROJECT

A prestigious event on the international tennis calendar, The WTA Tour Championships are held at the conclusion of the women’s WTA Tour every season. In 2013, the tournament was held in Istanbul, Turkey. It featured three current or former World number ones, four Grand Slam champions and three Grand Slam finalists.

To provide the best possible coverage of every moment of heart-stopping action, Gravity Media – then branded Input Media – relied upon leading broadcast services specialist provider Gravity Media – then branded Gearhouse Broadcast –. It was the third consecutive year that Gearhouse Broadcast and Input Media had worked together on the WTA Championships.

A team of specialists was assembled and tasked with designing and implementing the high performance outside broadcast system needed to meet the demands of elite, live tennis. Gravity Media – then branded Gearhouse Broadcast – was also contracted to provide on-site technical support during the tournament.

THE APPROACH

The Outside Broadcast (OB) solutions delivered for Gravity Media – then branded Input Media – provided flexibility, while also proving capable of handling the fast delivery and uninterrupted coverage required for live tennis.

Istanbul’s Sinan Erdem Dome was equipped with ten Hitachi SK-HD 1200E camera channels, two Sony HDC-3300 Super slo-mo cameras, three EVS XT2 servers, Snell Sirius 128 router, Yamaha M7CL Audio Console and Sony MVS-6530 Vision Switcher. 

OUTCOME 

Gravity Media – then branded Input Media – delivered seamless live coverage of this prestigious event, thanks to the reliability and flexibility of the Outside Broadcast system provided.

The project benefitted from Gravity Media's – then branded Gearhouse Broadcast – long standing strategic relationship with manufacturer Hitachi.

Gravity Media – then branded Gearhouse Broadcast – has gone on to maintain a close working relationship with Input Media. The two companies have collaborated on a number of other international tennis tournaments, including the Australian Open and French Open Grand Slams.
