The 2019 Red Bull Soapbox Race took place at London’s Alexandra Palace on Sunday 7 July. The Soapbox Race is a bonkers annual event in which amateur drivers race home-made go-carts down a very steep hill.
Each hand-made machine is propelled by gravity alone – no engines, no pedals – with the course testing not only the racers’ courage but also their engineering skills. Previous soapbox designs have included a piano, a massive corn on the cob, and the Golden Gate Bridge. With 430 obstacle-littered metres to navigate, many disintegrate long before the finish.
More than 20,000 people attended the event in sunny north London, which ran from noon until 4pm. HyperActive supplied NEP UK with five EVS ChannelMAX XT3s to cover the event, which was broadcast on Dave just an hour after racing ended.
