About the role:

Gravity Media Australia (GMA) is on the hunt for our next Head of Audio & Communications.

As Head of Audio & Communications, you will oversee a team of engineers and technicians, manage our overall equipment selection and maintenance across our facilities while working closely with the internal teams and suppliers to deliver high-quality broadcast solutions.

Based in our Mascot warehouse and Artarmon Production Centre in Sydney. You may be required to work in the field for major productions. This role will require some flexibility from time to time, including occasional weekends, late nights, and some public holidays when required.

Your day-to-day will include:

  • Develop and implement audio and communication strategies and technical standards that align with the overall broadcast vision for GMA.
  • Retain a current and up-to-date knowledge of all audio solutions; ensure knowledge of new systems and capabilities are communicated to field, maintenance and management teams within GMA.
  • Lead, mentor, and provide training for a team of audio & communications engineers, technicians and assistants, overseeing their performance and development.
  • Oversee the selection, installation, maintenance, and upgrade of all audio and communications equipment across GMA facilities including, but not limited to Outside Broadcast, Production Centres, SportsCom and Event Communications.
  • Ensure information and design of the audio and communications equipment is kept up to date and communicated throughout the relevant teams.
  • Work closely with the Engineering Workshop team to ensure faulty equipment is tracked to the manufacturer for repair and interim solutions are in place for ongoing projects.
  • Provide advice to the Operations team via weekly meetings to ensure audio and communications crew are suitably allocated and audio equipment has been resourced for individual projects.
  • Assist the Asset Management and Warehousing teams with resourcing of audio and communications equipment from quote to project inception.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with current suppliers and manufacturers of relevant technologies.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to improve the efficiency of the audio and communications department workflow.

About you:

  • Extensive experience in broadcast audio engineering and production.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong understanding of audio and communications technology, sound mixing, and recording techniques.
  • Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with diverse teams.
  • Familiarity with broadcast-specific audio equipment and software.
  • Genuine interest in broadcast and new media.
  • Flexibility around work hours and schedule demands.
  • Keen interest in sports.
  • Available to work outside of regular business hours if needed.
