A brief summary 

Riot Games’ Remote Broadcast Center (RBC) Powered by AWS represents Riot Games’ innovate approach to creating a centralized global broadcast model through a circuit of strategically placed RBCs around the world. First launched under the codename “Project Stryker”, these RBCs work to provide increased capacity for Riot Games’ esports content and events while also ensuring top-tier quality and consistency across all of Riot Games’ esports productions.

We are looking for a Junior Broadcast Engineer to join our team to help shape and drive the operation and maintenance of the production layer and supporting technologies at Riot Games’ next-generation Remote Broadcast Center in the Greater Seattle Area. The Junior Broadcast Engineer role will report into our Senior Broadcast Engineer Lead and will help support live esport broadcasts, focusing on championships and tournaments from around the world.

 

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Maintain a proactive approach to technical setup and monitoring of complex, medium to large scale live broadcasts.
  • Comfortably problem-solving broadcast critical issues which require time sensitive resolutions.
  • Act as first line support for technical issues which may arise through the course of a live broadcast.
  • Assist in the maintenance and upgrades of facility wide systems.
  • Possession of good judgment and ability to understand when an issue needs to be escalated and then correct escalation path.
  • Maintain detailed technical documentation to be used by technical teams for a broad range of purposes including, SOPs, Technical Show set up requirements, Resource allocation management, system upgrades, and workflow documentation.
  • Work with both technical and non-technical teams (Production, Graphics, Replay, IT, etc.) with the goal of issue resolution, always ensuring active communication.
  • Excellent resource and time management, showing an ability to prioritize production related tasks based on urgency and perceived importance.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Technical Degree in an applicable field (Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Broadcast Engineering, etc.).
  • 0- 2 years of experience working in a Broadcast or AV ecosystem, with strong fundamentals in live video and audio in a production environment.
  • Experience with broadcast signal flows across video, audio and transmission lines.
  • Working knowledge of video and audio formats, HD-SDI, 3G, H264, H265, AES, Dante, MADI, etc.
  • Understanding of the use of XY routing systems in a broadcast environment.
  • Exposure to Camera systems, EVS, Vision Switchers, Audio consoles, Graphic suites, and comms systems.
  • Experience with vMix, OBS, NDI, SRT, encoding and decoding principles.
  • IT and SMPTE ST2110 knowledge is an advantage.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of broadcast workflows and best practices.
  • Logical thinking and proactive attitude towards technical problem solving.
  • An ability to learn quickly and adapt to quickly changing scenarios.
  • A keen interest in broadcast technology and new technologies.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a live environment and within program requirements.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and overnight shifts.
