ESG

We’re getting even better.

Our commitment to ESG is core to delivering our purpose and values.

Our societal purpose is to capture the story, emotion and detailed action from events all around the world, so that audiences, regardless of location or means, can trust, learn from and feel enriched by high quality screen entertainment and live events.

Our environmental purpose is to conduct our work with careful consideration for the natural environment, to minimise our use of natural resources and to harness innovation and collaboration to reduce our environmental impact worldwide.

These efforts will be enabled through our people centric culture embracing inclusivity and growth; and by embedding strong governance to hold ourselves accountable to our commitments.

Our Commitment to Excellence

Our aim is to reduce our carbon emissions in line with the latest climate science to reach a long-term goal of net zero emissions, and to increase diversity and inclusion across the Broadcast Media industry.

Initially focussing on the areas of sustainability, diversity and inclusion, and employee wellbeing, we are developing a full and comprehensive ESG strategy across all of our operations, that will enable us to realise our goals.

With strong employee engagement across all levels and functions of the business, we have a very solid foundation to build on.

‘Working on the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 with Gravity Media was such an exciting initial experience in the TV & Broadcast industry. I was trained on broadcast studio cameras and given responsibility to test and repair the camera equipment. I was also taught how to terminate a variety of connector/cable types and I cut and terminated hundreds of 75Ω coaxial cable with BNC connectors for transporting SDI video within/between the server racks at Qatar’s 8 stadiums.

A few months later, a University assignment required my cohort to build an IP video network. In preparation, I spoke several colleagues about ways this could be achieved and was allowed to take equipment from the warehouse and start experimenting. I was able to setup several systems which I proposed to my University lecturers. The knowledge I learnt from my colleagues and whilst experimenting with equipment enabled my cohort to quickly troubleshoot and resolve problems with the network we built at university as I had gained experience with the concepts and equipment we were using at work.

I really appreciate how supportive all my colleagues are with helping me learn any concept I pursue, both in-line with my university studies and with extracurricular concepts. I’m encouraged and given the resources to explore equipment and dive into unfamiliar concepts which I find is a fun and effective way to learn.’

Broadcast & Media Systems Engineering Apprentice

‘Having previously completed a Higher National Certificate in Electrical / Electronic engineering with my previous employer, I was looking for a new challenge which would further both my skills and education. This opportunity was presented when I saw Gravity Media taking applications for their brand-new Broadcast Engineering & Media Systems Degree apprenticeship in collaboration with Ravensbourne University London. After researching the company and university I saw both were held in high regard within the industry, and being a keen sports fan was keen to apply…

Summing up Gravity in a few words is hard, as the opportunities & support they have given me has been wide ranging. Knowing our slogan of ‘Capture, Craft, Create’, I think there could be room for a fourth, Collaborate. Whether collaborating with clients to achieve their goal, or collaborating with my fellow more experienced engineers to solve a problem, it all comes down to the willingness of everyone to work together and share knowledge.’

Engineering Apprentice

‘I visited my university, Solent University, after being invited by the BA Sports Journalism course leader Will Cope. I graduated from this course in 2018, and also graduated from the MA Sports Broadcast course in 2019. The purpose of the “Meet the Grads” program is for Solent Alumni to come in and talk to first years on the course, about the industry, our jobs and journeys.

For me it was important to participate (in the program) because I remember when I was a first year; it was eye-opening and helpful to hear about the industry…and also the different journeys of former students. (I want students) to understand there’s numerous paths that lead to the right job for you.’

Success Stories

Gravity Media now operates nine remote production centres worldwide, delivering best-in-class technology and supporting both on-premise and distributed remote production. We offer tailored solutions for productions of all types and sizes, streamlining facilities, workflows, and content delivery on a global scale.

This approach not only helps to reduce travel emissions but also improves operational resilience, particularly in regions vulnerable to extreme weather events, by enabling technology and technical staff to operate remotely.

Considering these multiple benefits, building our remote production offering, in alignment with our clients’ needs, is a central objective in our sustainability strategy.

Our Future Mission

We are committed to being a model of sustainability, upholding ethical conduct, integrating environmental stewardship, and social responsibility in all our operations and endeavours.

Reducing Emissions

Our first priority is to develop a near term target science aligned, underpinned by a detailed emissions reduction plan that will focus on transport, energy consumption and supply chain engagement.  Once underway, our focus will turn to developing a longer term net zero target to be achieved by 2050 at the latest.

Supply Chain Engagement

Our supply chain is a vital partner in supporting our ESG goals. We are proactively working towards improving our data quality for Scope 3 emissions so that we can collaborate with our vendors to collectively reduce our environmental impact. Our ethical procurement policies and procedures will remain a priority to ensure we work with partners who align to our ESG commitment and values.

Promoting Diversity & Inclusion

We recognise the value that diverse talent brings to our organisation, enriching our perspectives, driving innovation, and fuelling our collective success. To further advance our commitment, we will actively promote diversity, equality, and inclusion across our workforce and beyond. This includes setting clear targets to address the underrepresentation of certain groups within different business functions and levels of seniority. Moreover, we understand that inclusive behaviour is paramount to creating a workplace where everyone feels a sense of belonging and is empowered to thrive.
