What we do

New South Wales largest annual Indigenous sporting event was held at the Central Coast Regional Sporting and Recreation Complex (CCRSRC) at Tuggerah, New South Wales, over the October long weekend 2023. Referred to as the ‘Koori Knockout’, the event showcases emerging Aboriginal rugby league talent along with many esteemed former and current NRL players. The 4-day carnival holds a highly regarded and significant place on the national Indigenous calendar. Gravity Media facilitated the broadcast of the Koori Knockout, which was produced by NITV.

What we used

Gravity Media Australia collaborated with the production team from NITV on Darkinjung country at this annual Aboriginal Rugby League carnival. Outside Broadcast truck HD1 integrated a 15-camera layout with RF, Super Slow Motion and PTZ cameras, plus a drone. Digital Satellite News Gathering truck GMA3, handled carriage of signals from this regional location to the NITV station in Sydney. Gravity Media also provided hosting and commentary facilities as part of our broadcast solution. In addition, our SportsCom Lite product enabled audio from tournament referees to be included in the broadcast.

Outcome

The 51st Koori Knockout featured some of the best rugby league talent in Australia, with 150 teams competing across the men’s, women’s, and junior tournaments. Tens of thousands of people attended the event over four days at one of the largest gatherings of First Nations people in Australia. The Gravity Media team worked with NITV to produce 16 matches on Sunday and Monday, culminating in the Men’s Grand Final in which Walgett Aboriginal Connection defeated Wiradjuri Aboriginal Rivers 22-12. The winners featured NRL stars Ben Barba, Joel Thompson and Jack Wighton. The Koori Knockout was broadcast live on NITV and Fox Sports for 8 hours a day across both days.
