What we did

Gravity Media was commissioned as technical partner for the big-screen production at the Vodafone Lions 1888 Cup, which took place on 26 June 2021 at Murrayfield in Scotland, where the Lions had their first-ever clash with the Japanese Brave Blossoms.

The historic match was played in front of a crowd of 16,500, which was the largest rugby event the UK had seen since the COVID-19 pandemic started.

What we used

Gravity Media’s UK outside broadcast truck Pictor made the trip Edinburgh, supported by RF camera equipment and EVS units from our rental department, and operated by an experienced team of engineers. The team on the ground generated an array of live content to be played out on the big screens before, during and after the match, as well as at half time, while our talented in-house design team – previously commissioned by leading sports federations such as The FA, the RFU and the ITF – also created and operated a bespoke big-screen graphics package, in line with the Lions’ new brand guidelines.

We pride ourselves on flexibility and innovative technical solutions at Gravity Media, both of which are crucial for live events during these uncertain times.

Outcome

Gravity Media has a long history of delivering big-screen productions, having worked with both The FA at Wembley and the RFU at Twickenham for almost a decade. Our relationship with Arsenal goes back even further – almost 30 years – where we’ve provided the in-stadium screen production first at Highbury and now at the Emirates Stadium.

“We were delighted to be working with Gravity Media on this historic event. Their experience and big screens pedigree is unrivalled in the UK, and they were always our first choice. This is the first time in 16 years that we have been able to host the Lions on home soil, and we wanted the stadium show and big screens coverage to provide a truly memorable experience for those in attendance. Gravity Media helped us deliver a world-class experience.” Barry Aherne, Event Director, British & Irish Lions.
