The Big Music Quiz

Australia

Seven Network Productions

What we did

Australia’s Seven Network Productions was aiming for a hit in 2016 with new show, The Big Music Quiz. The network sought a cost-efficient Outside Broadcast (OB) unit kitted out with state-of-the art equipment specifically tailored to meet the unique requirements of the show’s format.

Seven Network Productions chose to rely on global production solutions provider Gravity Media to supply a OB solution it could count on. World renowned for its OB solutions, Gravity Media Australia has a fleet of OB trucks featuring efficient layouts that provide larger working areas and deliver more processing power. All are equipped with the most advanced HD and 4K technology available and are fully customisable.

Seven Network Productions settled on the HD-10 to accommodate all of its particular production requirements. A key part of Gravity Media’s service was to integrate a ‘Spot On’ (touch screen) audio playback system. Another major integration was the live interaction required between the ‘Games Control’ software and hardware, as this was key when it came to enabling the host and celebrity guests to interact.

What we used

HD-10 is a purpose-built, ergonomically designed, single-expanding side semi-trailer with vast amounts of internal space. For “The Big Music Quiz” HD-10 was kitted out with the latest high performance technology, including: 10 Hitachi SK-HD 1200 cameras and a Sony VMU & Probel router including audio embedding.  All ISO records were passed through a 10Gb network via 3 x X-Files and stored onto JBOD NAS drives, which were dismounted after each record and delivered to Post House for ingest. Further services included FOH audio integration with Norwest providing the facilities. This was not only for the studio PA but additionally, each episode contained a live music performance which needed mixing and the ISO recording for post. Secondary ISO recordings made purely as a back up were streamed through ‘Boom Record’ as WAV and independently stored on a HDD with time-code for easy editing. For outstanding communications with a discreet line to the host a Reidel Comms matrix integrated with UHF Duplex & Simplex Bases was selected. A 500KVA generator was onsite and across the changeover switch for full redundancy to the entire production, in risk mitigation of the production being impacted in the event of a full loss of mains power to the entire site.
