With a people strategy that supports those seeking a career in broadcast and production, Gravity Media is pleased to announce the launch of its new Apprenticeship Programme, through which we’ll be offering a number of work placements to up-and-coming professionals over the coming months.
Each apprentice who joins us will benefit from working alongside highly experienced staff, learning a host of new skills, and enjoying at least one day off a week for study. On 31 August 2021, the first two candidates arrived in Watford to begin their adventure; we’re delighted to welcome Deniz Ismail and Akchith Baskaran into the business.
A bit about Deniz
Deniz loves technology and has a passion for coding. Fluent in HTML, CSS and JS, Deniz is now teaching himself C# – and with it improving the creative and problem-solving skills he’ll need for success in the workplace. When Deniz is not in front of a computer, he can be found playing the piano or cooking for his friends and family. He’s also something of an artist, with a particular emphasis on video game design.
“I decided to do an apprenticeship because I feel learning on the job is the best way to learn”, says Deniz. “You solve real-life problems to accompany your classroom learning, making you more prepared for work. Gravity Media was an amazing choice as there are a wide variety of projects to work on within an interesting sector. The team is also experienced and provides great guidance. I hope to gain lots of knowledge working in different programming languages within different software.”
A bit about Akchith
Akchith has his heart set on pursuing a career in IT, most likely as an IT technician. He likes building, maintaining and troubleshooting PCs, as well as repairing smartphones, tablets and laptops. He also loves coding, which means he has handy experience of both the hardware and software sides of technology. When he’s not working, he likes to get out on his bike for long rides, and he’s also developing his own website.
“I’m looking forward to gaining first-hand experience of working in an IT industry”, says Akchith. “Doing this apprenticeship is helping me to develop many skills that are required for the workplace, as well as sharpen my communication and team-working skills. Gravity Media is great as it’s the best global provider of both production services and broadcast facilities.”
A bit about the apprenticeship
Both Deniz and Akchith have joined our IT and Business Systems team in Watford, working under the supervision of IT Manager Chris Leonard and Lead Developer Raymond Paulin. Their responsibilities include providing clients with the first line of IT support, helping them with any computer-related enquires they may have, as well as creating and maintaining incident logs and user guides. As their experience grows, they’ll also have a hand in debugging, fixing and creating new software for the business.
Gravity Media is relishing the opportunity to nurture the next generation of talent vying to enter the broadcast and production industry. We wish Deniz and Akchith every success in their roles.
