Live competitive surfing finally made a return to the World Surf League (WSL) for the first time since March with the Michelob ULTRA Pure Gold Rumble at the Ranch on Sunday 9 August.
The Michelob ULTRA Pure Gold Rumble at the Ranch event welcomed 16 of the top male and female surfers currently residing in the United States to compete in a mixed-doubles team event, with prize money going to a charity selected by the winning team. Top surfers included Kelly Slater (11x World Champ) and Lacey Peterson who competed in the teams of two (one male and one female).
The rig started on Wednesday 5 August and Gravity Media’s mobile unit Columbus was at Kelly Slater’s Wave Pool to capture the action pushing the integrated RF and wireless communications whilst helping with COVID-19 restrictions. The Gravity Media team also also deployed 15 cameras on site including a jet ski system as well as two SSM, two RF, four EVSs, Freespeak, and a huge complement of RF microphones and IFBs.
The event was broadcast live on Fox in the USA, Channel 7 in Australia, TV Globo in Brazil and around the world on the WSL YouTube Channel reaching millions globally. A big shout out goes to WSL for putting this unique event!
