What we do

Optus Sport is an Australian over-the-top (OTT) football-centric service, and the only place for Australian football fans to watch every match of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023. Subscribers didn’t miss a second of match coverage and had plenty of wraparound coverage.

What we used

The team of engineers at Gravity Media Australia worked to install and integrate the permanent studio facilities and production workflows at Optus Studio, in their Sydney Campus. Gravity Media manage the technical services for Optus Sport studio including equipment, systems integration, and crewing.  The facility was built by the Gravity Media Systems Integration team in 2019 and is a 4K/UHD hybrid facility capable of supporting Optus in the production of content for the Optus Sport service.  Gravity Media ensured an agile, robust technical overlay so Optus are able to focus on producing top quality content for the range of sporting events in their stable. The backbone of the facility is a 4K/UHD Hybrid Ross Ultrix Router and Ross Carbonite Ultra Vision Mixer. The audio shuffling and internal multiviewers make the Ultrix Router a great choice for a facility of this size.  Audio and communications are managed by a Calrec Brio 36 and Clearcom Delta communications matrix, connected by a Dante network, both punching above their weight in signal density and ability to support the most complex broadcasts.

Outcome

Optus Sport was the Official Broadcaster of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023, and our engineering team provided a managed service of the Optus Studio broadcast facilities every day of the World Cup, with 64 games over a four-week period. Gravity Media also provided Celbo camera solutions connecting to ENG teams and Presentation Platforms on site at the stadiums as part of the broadcast of the third-largest sporting event in the world. The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 obliterated records and raised standards on and off the park as Australia & New Zealand embraced the beautiful game, with TV viewing figures going through the roof.
