The Deputy Head of Audio works in partnership with the Head of Audio and other deputy heads to lead a team of talented operational audio crew who deliver the best experience for our clients and their customers. This is achieved via expertly planned, crewed, and executed operations combined with technical expertise, forward planning, and development training. The role is an operational on-site position, staying close to the crews and their working environment. There will be some time spent working from the office / working from home as required.

The Deputy Head of Audio works in partnership with the Head of Audio and other deputy heads to lead a team of talented operational audio crew who deliver the best experience for our clients and their customers. This is achieved via expertly planned, crewed, and executed operations combined with technical expertise, forward planning, and development training.

The role is an operational on-site position, staying close to the crews and their working environment.

There will be some time spent working from the office / working from home as required.

Responsibilities

The Deputy Head of Audio will work as part of a team of deputies that will support the Head of Audio, collaborating and using individual skills to deliver the objectives of the department including:

• Work with the Scheduling Department to manage the allocation and distribution of staff crew workload and leave.

• Ensuring practical distribution of freelance guarantees.

• Set out strategy and best practice for how the audio department operates on site.

• Build pride and engagement in the department.

• Training and professional development of all staff.

• Oversee contract leads and operational delivery of all our contracts and ad-hoc work.

• Input into required proactive maintenance, kit packaging and equipment choice.

• Implementation of new workflows and technology on site.

• Ensure we are delivering our operation at a high standard across all areas.

• Recruitment and retention.

• Drive change and cohesion to deliver a unified EMG Audio department.

• Forward planning, especially around difficult periods in the schedule.

Competencies

THE INDIVIDUAL WILL:

• Provide inspirational management and leadership to operational staff.

• Actively support the attraction, retention, development, and training necessary for diverse skilled talent.

• Act as a Role model the EMG Values to deliver excellence.

• Work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation.

• Provide engineers on site with technical support.

• Work with Unit managers to ensure accuracy of planning.

• Line manage a team of guarantees, engineers and juniors.

Experience

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Excellent appreciation of the media industry with specialisation in the Outside Broadcast and Event coverage.

• Proven ability to remain calm and effective under the pressures surrounding Live events.

• Experience of leadership roles within craft-skill and engineering operations

• Demonstrable skills in planning resource and crewing allocations.

• Proven skillset in nurturing talent within others and identifying training and development needs.

• Excellent anticipation for client requirements and future operational development opportunities including those requiring innovation, imagination, and skilled strategic operational awareness.
