Supercars Media Group

What we did

Supercars Media had selected Gravity Media – eight years ago – as the Broadcast Services and Facilities partners because of our ability to deploy technical solutions for a number of areas that our competitors couldn’t. In 2020, Gravity Media became Supercars Media first official technology partner. As their technical partner, we provide full track camera coverage, pit lane wireless and speciality cameras, in-car camera services, broadcast GFX and team radio mics for all crew on location. We supply four broadcast trucks to each location, one for the World Feed production, one for Fox Sports, one for Network 10 and one for the big screens overflow production.

What we used

We are trusted to deliver a range of technical solutions including: – Speciality Cameras: Designed and built in-house by our special cams’ unit. These cameras are cabled to the on-board CCU and remotely synchronously switched to the DTC Nano Sol7 RF transmitter. – Full track-camera coverage: fully integrated 10 x TX paths with 120+ cameras in all categories. – Event communications: a complete onsite non-broadcast communications solution covering 15+ circuits and 1,300+ UHF handsets. – Live production infrastructure: featuring Grass Valley solutions at the venue and Foxtel’s facility, which included a Kahuna 9600 production switcher and the NVISION compact router. During the broadcast, signals that were sent to Foxtel were switched and monitored through a Sirius 800 series router with MV-800 multiviewer before they were transmitted to Foxtel for final switching and transmission. The Bathurst 1000 race was the first 1000-kilometre race to be broadcast live in 4k. The set-up required five OB trucks along with kit from our US, UK, and European Offices. We deployed 26 Sony HDC-4300s and a Sony HDC-P43 at various locations around the track. To film it in greater detail, we added Sony’s HDC-4800 slow motion cameras.

Outcome

Across the championship, Gravity’s production solutions were used to capture more than 80 hours of live coverage. Supercars Media was also able to deliver multiple technical solutions outside of its normal, traditional, broadcast offerings to further enhance its value to rights holders and fans. Nathan Prendergast, from Supercars commented: “[Gravity Media] was the natural choice for delivering a large-scale event like Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 in 4K for the first time. The team at [Gravity Media’ has provided Supercars with excellent broadcast coverage for the past five years, so we had total confidence that they would deliver the latest, cutting edge content to enhance our broadcast even further.”
