esports

The world of eSports continues to develop at a pace.

From niche beginnings, the genre is now mainstream, global, and continuing to grow, with audiences expected to surpass 550 million in 2021. It’s clearly a market whose time has come, and with around two billion dollars of revenue on the line, industry participants are now demanding ever-greater quality, coverage and interaction for their tech-savvy audiences – particularly as eSports need to compete for a share of online activity with other major entertainment platforms.

At Gravity Media, we’ve been active in eSports since Day 1, having been the first production company ever to bring a game into a TV workflow, including overcoming the challenge of region-specific encoding. Ever since, we’ve been an integral part of this incredible success story, working with all the key players at some of the biggest live gaming events on the planet.

To achieve this, we’ve developed a number of solutions and workflows for eSports coverage, which now define our presence in the sector. Our eSports flypack, for example, was specifically designed to accommodate large-scale comms systems, admins, real-time multi-language casters and remote PTZ cameras. It is also 1080p 59.94 compatible, and can produce RTMP outputs for direct streaming to popular platforms such as Twitch, SteamTV and YouTube.

Our packages are both modular and integrated, meaning we can flex our offering to match any client requirements. For example, the prestigious CS:GO event at London’s SSE Arena required in-venue big screens and core vision facilities for a 1080p live-stream production, where we blended and synchronised feeds from 80 separate video sources; and FIFA 19 action for Gfinity, which we live-streamed via the EA Sports FIFA channels using EVS ChannelMAX-capable XT3s supported by an XFile3 live file archive and 20TB of Avid NEXIS Storage.

The future for eSports is bright, offering many opportunities for new and exciting broadcasting approaches to provide the perfect environment for companies to engage with customers old and new. With dedicated channels and bigger tournaments than ever, there has never been a better time to get in on the action. And Gravity Media will be with you all the way.
