The Grand Final of BBC Young Dancer 2019 took place at the Birmingham Hippodrome on Saturday 18 May. Five finalists performed in front of a live theatre audience and a judging panel comprising leading figures from the world of dance, including Emma Gladstone, Artistic Director of Dance Umbrella, Wayne McGregor, Choreographer at The Royal Ballet, and Christopher Hampson, Artistic Director at Scottish Ballet.
Competing for the title were the winners from the South Asian Dance, Contemporary, Ballet and Street Dance Finals, together with one dancer awarded the judges’ wildcard place. 20 year-old Max Revell from Cornwall ultimately took the Young Dancer crown, performing three pieces in the Grand Final: a solo created for him by hip hop legend Dickson Mbi; a second self-choreographed solo; and a duet performed with Tom Hughes Lloyd – a competitor from Young Dancer 2017.
HyperActive had a team of engineers onsite with the BBC at the event, supporting several Avid Media Composer suites and EVS IPDirectors with IP Edit, for a comprehensive on-the-fly editing solution.
