Gearhouse Broadcast UK supplied CTV Outside Broadcasts with two ChannelMax XT3 production servers, two Sony HDC-4300 camera channels and two UJ86 lenses to cover the first match in the 2019 Ashes series.

Seen by some (cricket lovers, mainly) as sport’s greatest rivalry, the Ashes began on 1 August and will continue until mid-September. For the uninitiated, the Ashes is a five-match Test cricket series between England and Australia held every two years, with the winners taking home the fabled Ashes urn until the two teams meet again.

The first match of 2019 was played at Edgbaston; Edgbaston being a favourite amongst players, fans and officials alike and reputed to be the most hostile ground in England for visiting teams. Not so this year, as England got thrashed by a whopping 251 runs, allowing Australia to go one up in the series.

For many, Edgbaston 2005 was the scene of the greatest Ashes match ever played, where England survived a last-ditch Australia fightback to complete a thrilling two-run victory in the second Test. That was until just a week or so ago, when Ben Stokes single-handedly saved England’s blushes in the third Test in front of an astonished Headingley crowd, levelling the series at 1-1 with two to play. Fans, pundits and players alike are now hailing Headingly 2019 as the greatest Ashes Test ever.
