Tried and trusted – Gravity Media seeks ISO accreditation

In the knowledge that all companies must take responsibility for protecting their staff and visitors, and minimising the environmental impact of their operations, Gravity Media in the UK is delighted to announce that it is working towards ISO accreditation in two key areas: Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001) and Occupational Health and Safety (ISO 45001). The best way to respect a resource is to protect and maintain it ‒ and that is what ISO certification brings.

Although not yet formally accredited for ISO 45001 and ISO 14001, we have been adhering to the standards since September 2020, and are currently double-checking all aspects of the way we work ahead of our final assessment later in the year. We take this process seriously, and have appointed a specialist performance-improvement consultancy, Ley Hill Solutions, to assist us on the road ahead: “The certification journey means looking at how you work currently, identifying where there are gaps, implementing and embedding changes that address those gaps, and then being independently audited by a certification body.” We’re confident we meet the requirements of the standard, and look forward to our audit.

Meanwhile, we also use the Albert Carbon Calculator ‒ to assess the predicted carbon footprints of our projects and implement carbon action plans to reduce the footprints. Other planet-friendly initiatives include subscribing to a tree-planting scheme run by Oblong Trees, and several of our staff have attended a Business Sustainability Management course with the University of Cambridge. As a result, we have signed up to the UNFCCC Sports for Climate Action Framework, and are building our roadmap to be net-zero by 2030.

Warren Symonds, Operations Director for Gravity Media, comments: “Environmental, Social and Governance factors underpin everything at Gravity Media, and gaining ISO certification is a brilliant milestone and an indication of our commitment to longer-term thinking. We fully subscribe to the World Wide Fund for Nature’s statement that: ‘We are the first generation to know we are destroying our planet, and the last that can do anything about it’, and we are committed to the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which embody the holistic, system-wide thinking required to ‘end poverty, protect the planet and ensure all people enjoy peace and prosperity.’ ISO accreditation will make Gravity Media in the UK one of a very small handful of broadcast and production companies with certification. The programme is supported at every level in the organisation, and we’re collectively excited to be adding another string to our environmental bow.”
