More and more productions in Germany are opting to use 4K equipment, even if they are only delivering content in HD. Following Gravity Media’s significant investment in the latest UHD and IP-ready Grass Valley LDX 86N cameras, and Canon and Fujinon 4K/UHD studio/field and ENG lenses for its German business in 2018, demand has risen sharply.

“Our customers want to work with the newest technology, even if their projects don’t require the full range of specifications on offer,” said Tom Gehring, Managing Director of Gravity Media – Germany. “Getting their hands on that equipment used to be a challenge as it wasn’t so readily available, but thanks to our decision to expand our inventory, it’s much easier for them to source industry-standard 4K cameras and lenses. This is helping to raise the overall quality of the content that is being captured and expediting to transition from HD to 4K, and in some instances HDR.”

The Grass Valley LDX 86N cameras, which are the preferred option for German productions, feature native UHD (3840×2160) and native 3G/HD (1920×1080) image capture. The IP-ready cameras are ideal for sports productions, where the use of traditional B4 mount HD/4K lenses instead of PL lenses enhance the producer’s and director’s ability to capture content. They are also specifically designed for live broadcast 4K UHD in controlled lighting situations and wide-angle camera positions.

By investing in both Canon and Fujinon optics, Gravity Media is able to provide users in Germany with greater choice and the opportunity to work with the latest lenses from their preferred brands.

Gravity Media will be showcasing its latest 4K live production solutions at this year’s NAB show in Las Vegas between 18 – 22 April 2020.
