As part of Gravity Media’s strategy to train the next generation of Engineering talent through high-quality apprenticeship schemes, they are kick-starting the year by welcoming Mitchell Stimson “Mitch” into the engineering team based in the Watford office.

Following the launch of Gravity Media’s Apprenticeship Programme in August 2021, Mitch is joining as the first Broadcast & Media Systems Engineering Apprentice and will be spending time between Gravity Media and Ravensbourne University in London to complete a degree in Broadcast & Media Systems Engineering.

Gravity Media is pleased to join the likes of the BBC, Sky and Encompass enrolling apprentices on Ravensbourne’s first Broadcast & Media Systems Engineering Degree.

Building on Gravity Media’s relationship with Ravensbourne University in London, Mitch is the first in what will be a regular yearly intake of Apprentice Engineers where Gravity Media continues to offer several work placements to up-and-coming professionals.

With a people strategy that supports those seeking a career in broadcast and production, apprentices who join the growing team benefits from working alongside highly experienced staff, learning a host of new skills, with support for both classroom based learning and learning on the job with Gravity Media.

A bit about Mitch

Mitch holds a Higher National Certificate in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and is looking to find his place within the media industry after having spent a few years working in various electrical engineering roles.

Wanting to make engineering his lifelong career, Mitch is now excited to pursue this with Gravity Media. With a non-media background, he feels he can bring a different perspective to the workshop and is thrilled to be studying at Ravensbourne University.

When away from work, Mitch loves to travel and recently returned from a two-month road trip in the USA where he managed to visit 13 states! Whilst at home, he can be found doing anything sports-related, whether playing for his local football team or watching the boxing.

Mitch Stimson says “I was pleased to be successful in applying for my apprenticeship as I feel I learn best with a hands-on approach. With engineering being such a practical role, it’s vital to get that real-world experience early on with all of the kit we have available here. Gravity Media has been fantastic so far and a big part of this for me is the high-level engineering talent I am now surrounded by at such an early stage of my career. I can’t wait to learn as much as I can from everyone and see where it takes us over the next few years!”

A bit about the apprenticeship

During his three years on the apprenticeship programme with Gravity Media, Mitch will be working as part of the engineering team in Watford, working under the supervision of Engineering Managers Steve Snook and Tony Brown for the first year.

In the second year, he will be spending time at The Production Centre in London with the Gravity Broadcast Engineers and also with the Post-Production Engineers at Southwood Business Park in Farnborough. The third-year is to yet be decided and will be agreed upon depending on where Mitch and the business see his strengths leaning towards.

Gravity Media is relishing the opportunity to nurture the next generation of talent vying to enter the broadcast and production industry. We wish Mitch every success in his new role.
