The pre-season friendly between Western Sydney Wanderers and Leeds United was the first football match to be played at Sydney’s brand new, purpose-built sports venue, Bankwest Stadium.

The 30,000-seat stadium features the steepest grandstands in Australia, bringing fans closer to the action and creating an awesome live event experience. It’s operated by VenuesLive, the owner of a number of publicly-owned sports and entertainment venues across New South Wales, who engaged Input Media Australia and Gearhouse Broadcast Australia to produce the global broadcast of the event.

Played on Saturday 20 July, the historic first football match at the stadium was a true celebration of the game, with two passionate fan groups going head-to-head in the stands while the players battled it out on the pitch. Leeds United ran out 2-1 winners on the day.

The result was a huge success for all stakeholders, with the programme distributed through Bein Sports, LUTV and Eleven Sports to an audience both within Australia and around the world. The broadcast included a pre-game show, the match itself, and half-time analyses.
