Based in Riyadh and reporting to the General Manager, The Technical Manager – Middle East will drive excellent engineering standards, ensuring Gravity Media Arabia have an engaged, motivated and a best in class Engineering team who are ahead of the curve in adopting and delivering new technologies for our Outside Broadcast, Systems Integration, Fly-pack, and Projects work in the Middle East region. This role will be a key part of our growing Middle East team, suited to an experienced Senior Video or Audio Engineer, this role offers the opportunity for the right candidate to take a step up in responsibility to develop both leadership and commercial skills. The role will be a hands-on role allowing the successful candidate to lead by example in their own engineering discipline servicing our client’s productions with our Outside Broadcast vehicle and equipment.

What you’ll be responsible for

 

Leadership

  • Manage, coach, lead and inspire a team of best-in-class Engineers within their area.
  • Recruit a high potential and talented team, keeping a network of pipeline engineering talent in conjunction with HR.
  • Conduct 1:1s and the annual appraisal process to support a motivated and engaged workforce who understand where their role fits in with the business objectives.
  • In conjunction with the General Manager look at succession planning, progression, training, holiday, rostering.

Operations

 

  • Leading the technical delivery of services particularly in their own field of expertise.
  • Manage kit lists across all jobs.
  • Maintenance of equipment.
  • Review and plan kit movement.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers & Proposals Teams across the wider business to promote the Middle East operation.
  • Act in a senior operational capacity on projects.
  • Take responsibility for evaluating and booking external suppliers, SNG, Power etc.

In this management role we’ll be expecting you to

  • Leverage existing industry contacts.
  • Assist with the creation and delivery of Request for Proposal (RFP) and tender responses.
  • Support the General Managers attendance (and also attending on behalf of where appropriate) of networking events, trade shows and conferences.
  • Seamlessly integrate with proposed groupwide CRM processes.
  • Be the first point of contact for your team for any queries, escalations, and feedback.
  • Hold regular meetings with each member of your team to align on topics, direction, information sharing, create an opportunity for the team to be heard and sense of community.
  • Regularly review workload across the team to ensure efficiency and balance.
  • Provide feedback to your team to allow continued growth.
  • Ensure new members to your team have a thorough onboarding process including regular review during probation (excludes onboarding provided by HR).
  • Actively support the development of your team through action plans.
  • Actively manage poor performance.
  • Communicate and reinforce key business messages to your team, for example following Manager Meetings, Town Halls, email communications.
  • Understand key Company policies/processes and help your team to understand.
  • Be responsive to requests for information to colleagues and other departments.
  • Ensure your team complete all mandatory training.
  • Carry out an annual performance review with each member of your team.
  • Take any necessary steps to ensure that individuals are not subjected to harassment, sexual harassment, or bullying.

This role is for you if you possess


Essential

  • Substantial Senior Engineer In Charge (EIC) level experience.
  • Commercial Awareness.
  • Solid understanding of Engineering Principles within area.
  • Solid understanding of programming broadcast systems.
  • Microsoft Office.
  • CAD/VISIO skills.
  • Highly motivated.
  • Managing competing priorities and able to manage expectations/pre-empt issues.
  • Understanding or sports TV Production & associated workflows.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of IP workflow and Remote Broadcast workflow is an advantage but not essential.
  • Arabic language.
