We are looking to bring on our next generation of bright and talented Engineering Graduates to start in 2023. This is an opportunity for you to learn and develop in live television production, replay, archiving, networking, and audio engineering set up of non-linear based systems in high profile global events. Once you have perfected your operational skills, have a deep understanding of the engineering standards consistent with that discipline, you will then be looking towards preparing, planning, and delivering the technical operation of fly away projects from small base productions to major global events & productions. As part of Gravity Media’s Projects Engineering department, you will be a part of a team entrusted with delivering services to major broadcast clients across the world on a variety of different productions.

As part of Gravity Media’s Projects Engineering department, you will be a part of a team entrusted with delivering services to major broadcast clients across the world on a variety of different productions.

Based in our Watford office and out on our UK and global projects, the Graduate Audio Engineer will be responsible for the technical operation of projects when on the road. There may be times when the Graduate Audio Engineer will be required to assist in engineering workshop in London or as directed by the Head of Projects or Lead Audio Engineer.

Responsibilities

During your training programme, you will be given the coaching, mentoring, training, and development to:

  • Follow pre-determined engineering standards in line with the engineering manager/head of department.
  • Adopt safe working practices and embracing a safety culture.
  • De-rig audio facility maintenance, which will include maintenance and repair of projects technical equipment.
  • De-rig audio engineer on fly-aways responsible for the technical running of the facility. This would include the following:
  • Determining equipment requirements and specifications for specific projects.
  • Compiling of shipping lists.
  • Compiling of audio technical plans for projects EG Block diagrams, microphone, and audio desk plans, etc.
  • Assistance of projects management with determining logistical requirements for projects.
  • Working with contract staff where necessary on projects.
  • Facility de-rig and de-commissioning after projects.
  • Liaison with existing client base.

Office Based Requirements

  • Undertake general routine maintenance and planned work.
  • Prepare and test equipment prior to its shipping date.
  • Work closely with the Assets team to prepare equipment, ensuring it is available to project account managers and the rental department.
  • Assist in the planning of projects to fulfil the requirements set by the client.
  • Research and source ‘equipment solutions’ to client needs if there is no solution available in stock.
  • Assist in the preparation of equipment according to technical project documentation.
  • Identify and repair faulty equipment.
  • Remain up to date with evolving technology and process through continuous self-learning and professional development.

International Travel

This position is based heavily on location which requires a large amount of international travel. Therefore, flexibility and a keen sense of adventure are a key requisite for the position.

Qualifications

  • A relevant degree level qualification.

Competencies

  • Time management and how-to prioritise workload and asks.
  • Key communicator – can listen and understand requests without the need for asks to be repeated.
  • Multitasker – have the dexterity to manage the audio desk and follow show running order while using the talkback panel to communicate with the Director etc.
  • Willingness to learn outside your comfort zone and immerse yourself in learning new technologies.
  • Strong computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite apps, and ability to learn and utilise Google business apps.

Experience

  • Keen interest in working with outside broadcasting facilities/equipment.
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel to multiple locations across the world.
