Summary

The candidate selected will provide technical support for live and recorded video content production, which includes delivery, installation/set-up, and basic operation of broadcast and IT related equipment. They will serve as technical lead for other flex and short-term Broadcast Technicians, instructing them in the workflows and operating procedures within the studios, and overseeing their performance. The position often works in a fast-paced production environment with time-sensitive deadlines.

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Reporting into the Chief Engineer, support day-to-day operations of studio technology systems, software, and equipment.
  • Expected to serve as supervising technician on-site when the studio Senior Broadcast Engineer is away or overseeing other studio operations.
  • In collaboration with the senior broadcast engineer, find opportunities to design and implement new workflows, adjustments to existing workflows, and changes to engineering maintenance procedures.
  • Oversees implementation of technical workflows on a project-by-project basis.
  • Assists with facilities maintenance of studios.
  • Supervises all studio inventory processes and oversees updating of studio inventory documents.
  • Prepares Best Practices and SOP documents detailing studio operations and maintenance procedures.
  • Fills shoot roles during productions as assigned, with a focus on cameras, audio, and lighting.
  • Perform equipment prep, configuration, and check-in / check-outs to studio staff as well as routine maintenance and updates.
  • Work with our clients Video Production team on productions on and off campus, live productions, operation in multi-camera studio, video switching, signal routing, cameras, video recorders, video distribution switchers and audio mixers, studio lighting equipment, microphones, and other audio equipment.
  • Transport and setup of video, lighting, and audio equipment as required.
  • Resolve or escalate issues in a timely fashion.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and make constructive suggestions for change.
  • Perform other job-related duties and projects as needed and assigned.

This role is for you if you have

  • 2-3 years in a video production environment (remote and studio).
  • General knowledge of operating studio equipment- lighting, audio consoles and camera equipment.
  • Education or training in production or computer platforms, IP/IT technologies with excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Hands on experience with audio/video switching, connectivity, routing, terminations, encoding, and signal flow.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with basic server, networking topology and operating systems
  • A self-motivated & resourceful attitude – ability to solve unusual or unexpected problems in a cool and collected manner in high pressure environments
  • The ability to communicate effectively in a team
  • Eagerness to learn new equipment, shooting roles and studio workflows
  • A valid driver’s license and have a clean driving record
  • The ability to sit, reach outward or above the shoulder, stand, walk, handle with fingers, stand, bend, and stoop.
  • The ability to operate a keyboard; view a video display terminal screen, ability to use telephone equipment.
  • The ability to climb ladders up to 24 feet tall and lift up to 50 pounds and push and/or pull 30 pounds.
