In this role, the Lead MCR Operator will lead an established MCR team. The successful candidate will be assigned to our clients Remote Broadcast Centre in the greater Dublin area.

We are looking for a skilled Lead Media Control Room Operator to join our MCR Team to lead our MCR Operators. Leading by example the ideal candidate will ensure broadcast quality and connectivity is maintained to the highest operational level. As a key member of the MCR Team, they will provide guidance and governance in a dynamic broadcasting environment, working as part of a high performing Global team in a collaborative manner. The Lead MCR Operator will work closely with the MCR Manager and wider Engineering and Operations team using the very latest technology managing platform channels, ensuring the team adhere to the correct ad insertion and QC’ing the distribution paths for remote partners across a cloud-based infrastructure.

The Lead MCR Operator will need to be a clear and confident communicator. An ability to adapt quickly to on-air changes and remain calm under pressure while ensuring problem solving procedures are enacted quickly and effectively resolving operational issues. This role will ensure the shift delivers the highest quality visual presentation for our audiences all around the world. An ability to focus the team and maintain their concentration while excluding distractions is key.

The Lead MCR Operator will be an integral part of the organisation’s MCR team and they will report to the MCR Manager. The position is based in the greater Dublin area. The position may require international travel on occasion.

The successful candidate will be assigned to our clients Remote Broadcast Centre in the greater Dublin area.   They will work on Esport broadcasts featuring global championships and tournaments.  Our MCR Team work with the latest technology in the most advanced Remote Broadcast Centre in the World.

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical tasks such as: establish all incoming sources from remote sites via the technical set-up and operation of video transmission encoders/decoders.
  • Perform QC checks for all incoming and outgoing signals (adjust and set levels to reference, perform video/audio sync, execute any format conversions).
  • Plan and configure complex OTT distribution workflows for remote partners, Costreamers, public platforms and assigned content partners such as Twitch, Facebook, YouTube, and any other distribution partner worldwide and monitor throughout the production.
  • Act as a technical resource/POC for MCR Operators and remote sites.
  • Lead the shift in their critical assessment of video and audio contribution feeds, proactive monitoring with rapid action to restore service using pre-defined emergency procedures.
  • Monitor OTT distribution paths for remote partners, Costreamers, public platforms and assigned content partners such as Twitch, Facebook, YouTube, and any other distribution partner worldwide and monitor throughout the production.
  • Ensure shift delivers channel management, ad insertion during live events and chat moderator assignment.
  • Upon receiving fault escalations – perform initial fault diagnosis and technical support with all transmission equipment and software, escalating faults accordingly.
  • Perform first-level metadata and event logging (descriptive metadata) for live events and oversee the extraction of administrative and structural metadata for each asset.
  • Maintain accurate and timely entries into the event’s daily logs throughout the event.
  • Monitoring of all transmission equipment and software, escalating faults accordingly.
  • Managing the inbuilt system redundancy to ensure that minimum disruption to services is caused by equipment failures.
  • Oversee and perform post-event highlight ingest/transfers, coordinate the “goodnighting” of transmission services, normalise plant, make final metadata entries, and general clean-up. Facilitate seamless hand-off to other Remote Broadcast Centres.
  • Assist in technical and operational documentation creation and ensure shifts maintain their paperwork upkeep.
  • Update and maintain all SOPs and contribute to new SOPs and the sharing of business/skill knowledge.
  • Performing regular reporting on performance of the centres by identifying and tracking data for KPI.

This position will have access to all broadcasting platforms and, as such, must be managed with great integrity. Professional and best practice behaviours in this role are essential to set the tone and lead the shift by example.

Qualifications

  • Degree or certification in a related field.
  • AWS certifications are desirable.

  • Ability to work in a live broadcast environment and maintain focus and the ability to accommodate high pressure citations and tight deadlines.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of new and emerging Broadcast Technologies.
  • Time management and how-to prioritise workload and asks.
  • Key communicator – can listen and understand requests and incorporate other viewpoints in the approach to work and problem solving.
  • Strong computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite apps, and ability to learn and utilise Google business apps.

Experience

  • 5+ years proven experience with video transmission, encoding and decoding, a Technical Operations Centre, or Broadcast Master Control environment.
  • At least 1 years’ experience in a shift lead role.
  • Knowledge of cloud-based and on-prem live streaming, encoding, and packaging solutions.
  • An understanding of the conversion of baseband video to a compressed video format to facilitate delivery across a variety of networks and platforms.
  • Solid understanding of video and audio codecs, compression formats, transport protocols, file formats and wrappers and the settings required for live streaming.
  • Experience in a live event production operation environment, preferably sports.
  • Background working with cloud-based and file-accelerated media upload applications.
  • Working with the technical and operational aspects of delivering OTT video content. You will have a strong understanding of media content delivery technology (including origin servers, CDN, and alternative delivery methods.
  • Fundamental understanding of IT networking infrastructure.
  • Detailed operational knowledge of tools used to diagnose issues with video and audio feeds, including waveform monitors and audio monitoring units.
  • Extensive experience with DAM/MAM platforms and media conversion tools like Adobe Media Encoder, Carbon Coder, Elemental Server, AWS Medialive, Telestream Vantage.
